A real-time configurator is built on 3D technology and interactive visualization, allowing the user to work directly with the product in real time. Colors, materials, and components can be freely changed and combined—and all updates appear instantly on the screen.

The system is usually set up with rules to ensure the user can only create combinations that are practical. It’s intuitive, fast, and offers plenty of possibilities for integration with, for example, price calculation, webshop, and ERP systems.

Advantages:

Live feedback—the user sees changes immediately.

Disadvantages:

Visualization is not necessarily photorealistic—but it is still accurate and clear enough to provide confidence and overview.

Prerender configurator

This type of configurator is based on layers of pre-rendered images that together show the product in high, photorealistic quality. When the user makes a choice, a rendering of that exact combination is displayed.

The configurator guides the user through the selections, all within a clear, controlled process—simple and intuitive.

Advantages:

Extremely high visual quality—the product looks photorealistic.
Clearly shows the choices the user has made and what the final result will look like.

Disadvantages:

Each change requires new image layers, which can limit flexibility and increase production time.

This solution is well-suited for products where a few carefully considered options are more important than many combinations—for example, furniture like sofas, upholstered furniture, and construction materials.
